Expressing Emotions: A Critical Need for Children and Adults – Part 1
Emotions tend to be a ‘touchy’ or ‘taboo’ subject that isn’t often comfortable for people to discuss. It’s uncomfortable, emotions often go suppressed and unaddressed for many years. We as a society tend to place a lot of value on logic vs. emotion (logical school subjects, career paths, decision making, etc.). We tend to spend our time in logical spaces as they are often easier to understand than abstract concepts. Because we don’t place a lot of value on emotions we aren’t living our lives in an environment that knows how to feel, process, react to, and express our emotions. If we aren’t actively taught this as kids, we will likely struggle with it as adults.
