Reiki is a gentle but powerful healing modality that has been around for almost 100 years, and is rapidly growing in popularity. Today, Reiki can be found as a complementary healing modality offered in hospitals and clinics worldwide. I’ve been working with this form of energy healing since 2000, and I’ve certified hundreds of reiki practitioner over the past 10 years. Through my experience, I’ve been fascinated by the positive results and range of symptoms benefitted using reiki..

Reiki seems to have an ability to go to where the patient needs it most, while creating a sense of balance and calm.  Some of the physical conditions I’ve worked with include healing chronic pain, recovery from surgery, headaches, anxiety, depression, and bells palsy. Reiki is safe for people of all ages, from newborn babies, to supporting the end of life transition for elderly people in hospice care.

The Power Of Ensofic Reiki

I’ve trained in various styles of reiki over the last 18 years, and the reiki method that I appreciate the most is called Ensofic Reiki, which is part of the EnSofic Ray Healing Modality.

The word “reiki” is a combination of “Rei” and “Ki.” “Rei” we can think of as a RAY of LIGHT or focused beam of energy, and “KI” as the life force energy that flows through us and around us.

EnSof is a Kabbalistic term for Source, or unlimited potential. It is a pure, and direct energy which can be directed through EnSofic Reiki. However, the Ensofic Ray healing modality is not limited to a hands-on-healing focused only to improve physical or emotional health. We see the deeper foundation of Reiki within the Five Principles, known as the Gokai:

The Gokai:

  • Just for today
  • Do not be angry
  • Do not be worried
  • Be grateful
  • Do your duties
  • Be kind to others

These simple statements are guidelines to live by:

  • Stay in the present moment
  • Don’t let stress and negative emotions affect your health – let it go
  • Focus on gratitude in alignment with Spirit and express your gratitude from this state of being
  • Wherever you are, and whatever you do, do it with the best intentions in alignment with your soul.
  • From this soul-centered state of being, practice kindness as a way of life

Our health greatly improves – physical and emotional – when we integrate these principles into our lives.

History of the 5 Reiki Principles:

The five principles (Gokai) were actually given to us by Mikao Usui sometime around 1922. He was practicing reiki – a hands on healing technique that brings energy (also called Ki or Chi) through the practitioner’s hands to where it is needed most to promote healing on a physical, emotion and soul/spirit levels.

Usui Sensei was treating many patients who would get better from the reiki treatments. However, after some time they would come back and say their symptoms returned and they needed more sessions. When he reminded his patients of these simple five principles, it helped them to stay healthy much longer because their symptoms weren’t aggravated by the stress of everyday life.

Reiki is connected to having joy in life!

These 5 principles are the “secret” to inviting joy into our lives. Joy is a force of creation. We need it in order to manifest and create all forms of abundance in our lives. Joy is also an essential key to our physical and emotional health.

When Mikao Usui discovered reiki in 1922 on Mt. Kurama Japan – he was not searching for a way to heal the body or emotions. He was actually on a quest for enlightenment. He was searching for peace of mind. In Japanese it’s called “ANJIN-RYUMEI” – the state of being where we live life alive!

After more than 20 days on the mountain Mikao Usui had a powerful experience where he discovered this state of mind. He realized it is how we bring joy into our lives and healing for all illness.

These 5 principles – called the Gokai – are a way of life. It requires that we live each day not from our human perspective but from the perspective of a God or Goddess in alignment with nature and the universe. It means stepping above our human mind chatter, drama, or wounding and rise up into the light that exists above our human condition.

This sound great but how do we do it?

Self-awareness to observe when it’s happening and discipline to make new choices helps. Personally, I don’t know where I would be without the help that I received from a two-day training called Empower Thyself where I received an energy transfer called an initiation. It’s a sacred ceremony that is offered on the second day of the training, and it helped me realign with the light. It accelerated my growth and helped me shift out of areas where I was blocked. As a result, even the reiki sessions that I offered became much stronger.

People who were used to getting reiki sessions from me would ask me “What are you doing differently?” They seemed to notice that the energy I was able to flow during the session was much stronger. I credit this to the initiation that I received.

Since then I became a Certified Guide with the Modern Mystery School with the ability to offer Initiation through the Empower Thyself program to others. Nearly half of the reiki practitioners that I certified also chose to receive the Empower Thyself training and initiation as a way to accelerate their progression and hold more light within their energy structure. As a result their reiki became filled with even more light. This positive energy not only helps them as practitioners but also enhances their persona life. The true purpose for initiation is it bring more light to the planet, align more with an individuals unique gifts and accelerate their ability to do more of their life’s work in a meaningful way.

Biggest lesson that Reiki has taught me:

There is a connection between our physical, emotional, soul and spirit bodies. When we are out of balance on a spirit, soul or emotional level it affects our physical health. Just treating the physical or emotional symptoms with medication or talk therapy helps on a surface level. However, integrating healing at a soul and spirit level with the Ensofic Ray Healing Modality helps create more balance at a core level. The 5 principles of reiki are a constant reminder that we can heal and have more joy if we are able to create balance in these five areas of life.
