For many years of my life I have had feelings of anger, sadness, hurt, and frustration.  I went to talk therapy for help, but couldn’t quite get to the core of what was going on. It wasn’t until I realized forgiveness is a key piece, that I could begin my journey of healing.

What does it mean to truly forgive?

Why would you want to forgive? What would be the point?  These are a few of the questions I asked myself when I first began to think about forgiveness.

Forgiveness is something that must come from within you.  It is not something that a book can necessarily tell you how to do.  The emotions and circumstances that need forgiving can be deep within us.  It is often times much more than simply saying “I forgive you” or “I forgive myself”.  There is an internal process we must each go through. We will each have our own unique process of what works to forgive.

There have been events and situations that have happened in my life that have impacted me and that have had a hold on me.  I have made mistakes that I have felt embarrassed and ashamed.  I have been in unfortunate situations, and as I look back on my journey, sometimes I didn’t understand where those feelings were coming from or even why they were so strong.  Feeling embarrassed and ashamed are some of the biggest feelings that can literally stop us in our tracks.  For me, that’s what it did.  I literally froze in these intense feelings and emotions and wasn’t able to move forward. These thoughts and feelings had meaning, and they needed to be addressed so that I could move forward. Part of moving forward was forgiveness.

Forgiveness can be a process and take several steps.

It is something that took time for me, and being honest with myself.  There are often layers to this process that one does not realize.  If this is feeling overwhelming to you, I understand. And even loving yourself during those challenging times, knowing that there is hope and there is a way.

  1. For me, self forgiveness came first so that I could bring more self love and compassion.  This process brought healing so that I could forgive others.  In forgiving someone, it isn’t about that person. It isn’t analyzing how that person should have known better, or how dare he/she, or why isn’t he/she being punished more. It isn’t saying that it was ok for that situation to happen. That person has their own process to go through.  What forgiving others means is that they no longer get to have an impact on you. The person(s) don’t need to have any idea that you are forgiving.  It is about letting that person and that feeling go, so that you no longer feel the energy or connection with that situation.
  2. Letting go – realizing not to hold on to those feelings anymore.  It’s not fun to always be so angry or hurt at a person or myself.  And who is it really impacting – that person or me? I realized that person has no idea, and by me holding on to it – it impacts only me.  It is a pattern I brought awareness to and realized I no longer want to continue.
  3. Knowing you are not your past.  What has happened in the past does not necessarily define you.  Just because something happened, or you made a certain choice, doesn’t mean it will be the same outcome in the future.  Through the healings I have received with The Modern Mystery School, it has brought a deeper understanding and given me tools of empowerment.

Forgiveness Requires Awareness

Awareness is important on the journey of forgiveness.  I needed to be able to get to a place where I could begin to talk about what I needed to forgive and why that was so important.

This journey to heal starts with me and self-forgiveness.  I would often have the tendency to be really hard on myself and carry what I thought to be mistakes or not being good enough with me.  I would carry that guilt, burden, or negative feelings with me and would affect me on a daily basis.  I would have internal dialogue that would tell myself that I would make the same mistake again, or that I couldn’t forgive.  I knew I wanted to stop the cycle but how when this pattern had been going on for so long.  It began with forgiving myself.

I bring awareness to what I am feeling, what has made me upset or what am I holding on to.  I then send myself love and forgive myself.  This is done with a commitment to always be the best I can be moving forward.  Learning from past experiences, but not holding on to it is key.

My Healing Journey

During this difficult time in my life, it was suggested to me to get an energy healing. I truly believe that the beginning of this healing process started with a session called a Life Activation.  This healing session started with an energy balancing that assisted me in feeling more centered.  It brought in more Light (positive energy) to shine awareness on some core issues.  It started a process of re-awakening what I had pushed down inside of me.  I felt more alive and knew there was more.

I continued my healing journey with Empower Thyself.  This class and initiation brought a new understanding of myself, who I truly am, techniques to add to my daily routine, and it began a process of self love.  It is a journey and path that I continue with The Modern Mystery School today.  I have found deep profound healing, self-worth, purpose and joy!

Forgiveness is a journey that is unique to each of us.  It’s about knowing that you are worthy and finding the strength and courage within you to start this journey to healing and empowerment.
